Same as the Kitten Wellness Program, we feel the most important thing we do here at Gardenvet is to promote preventive care beginning with your puppy very first visit.

In an ideal situation, we would like to talk to you before you get your puppy to help you choose a breed which suits your lifestyle. Since this rarely happens because each person may have preferences, we feel our guidance can be a helpful part of your puppy’s first few months as he/she becomes the beloved part of your family.

 

We recommend beginning your puppy’s vaccination program between 6 and 8 weeks of age with a booster every 3-4 weeks apart until he/she is 12-16 weeks of age then annual boosters. In most cases we vaccinate for the following diseases:

• Canine distemper virus
• Canine parvo virus
• Adeno virus type 2
• Para influenza
• Leptospira canicola
• Leptospira icterohaemorrhgiae
• Rabies

A detailed description of the above can be provided by the veterinarian on duty. Feel comfortable to ask any question during your visit.

Puppies can pick up intestinal parasites from the environment, but what many pet owners don’t realize is that puppies can also get roundworms and hookworms from their mother before birth for this reason we recommend deworming all puppies several times between ages of 6-12 weeks.

It’s very important to be aware of these surgical procedures to help lengthen and improve overall quality of your pets’ life.

Spaying greatly minimizes problems with;

• Unwanted pregnancy which helps prevent pet overpopulation
• Attraction of male dogs during heat cycles
• Potentially life threatening uterine infections
• Breast cancer

Neutering greatly minimizes problems with:

• Aggression and dominance
• Roaming which helps prevent pet overpopulation
• Territorial marking with urine
• Prostate cancer and infection
• Testicular cancer
• Perianal adenocarcinoma
